Welcome to Geneva!
Geneva is the second-most populous city in Switzerland (after Zürich) and is the most populous city of the Romandy, the French-speaking part of Switzerland. Situated where the Rhône exits Lake Geneva, it is the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva.
Geneva is a global city, a financial centre, and worldwide centre for diplomacy due to the presence of numerous international organizations, including the headquarters of many of the agencies of the United Nations and the Red Cross and Red Crescent. Geneva is the city that hosts the highest number of international organizations in the world. It is also the place where the Geneva Conventions were signed, which chiefly concern the treatment of wartime non-combatants and prisoners of war.
In 2017 Geneva was ranked as the world's fifteenth most important financial centre for competitiveness by the Global Financial Centres Index, fifth in Europe behind London, Zürich, Frankfurt and Luxembourg. The city has been referred to as the world's most compact metropolis and the "Peace Capital".
We have chosen the city of Geneva for this momentous event because of GWI’s long history with the city, its ubiquitous support for NGOs and our close-knit relationship with the UN Human Rights Council. Additionally, Geneva is a particularly appropriate setting for our "Peace through Education” Conference because of the city’s glorious history of “peace-enabling” as the site for peace talks for Afghanistan, Lebanon, the Balkans and Syria, and nuclear non-proliferation discussions between the United States of America and the Soviet Union.

registration price includes the GWI General Assembly, Centenary
Celebration, Conference and GWI Day. The Swiss Culture Night Dinner

Getting Around Geneva
Geneva is easily navigable on foot, by bicycle or by public transport. For drivers, it is important to note that Geneva is very congested in the city centre, especially during peak commute times. Thus, it is often quicker to use public transport options, which generally have designated lanes, than driving in the centre. The name of the main rail station is simply 'Genève'. Locally it is also known as the Gare de Cornavin. This is where trains to many Swiss destinations depart, as well as trains to France and Italy.
From the station, the old town centre can be reached on foot in 15 minutes, as well as most attractions such as the lakeside promenade and many museums. But there's a dense network of trams, buses, and trolley buses as well.
Geneva is a modern city with all of its buses, trams,
sidewalks, and establishments being accessible by wheelchairs or those with any
other special needs.
